What to watch in the London session

The London session (Europe open · the liquidity hour) · updated 2026-08-20 11:34 UTC.

Bitcoin’s hold above $71,000 and oil’s leap on Trump’s “economic war” against Iran still lead the tape, with JPMorgan’s warning that Treasury buybacks might lift yields providing the cautious counterweight. The White House crypto summit and the SEC’s friendlier proposals keep the risk-on tone intact — so yesterday’s story is very much alive this morning.

Today’s calendar is whisper-quiet again: the Bundesbank’s monthly report and the UK’s CBI industrial order expectations, both low-impact, and no scheduled central-bank speakers. The loudest noise may be the hum of the monitors.

As London liquidity thickens, watch whether the baton pass holds. The gauge shows Ethereum wearing the bull crown while Bitcoin cooled to neutral after its spike. Gold stays bearish on those yield warnings, oil remains firmly bullish on geopolitics, and the FX majors are all flat. So this is less a fresh direction and more a test — can crypto’s momentum broaden, and does gold’s slide deepen? A good way to read the session is by watching whether Bitcoin defends $71k once the real volume arrives.
