What to watch in the US session

The US session (New York open · the afternoon drive) · updated 2026-08-27 12:02 UTC.

Good morning. The regulation-and-stablecoins story carries into the US window, but the trading backdrop has shifted: the dollar is firm, and the euro and pound are on their back foot. EUR/USD is neutral-to-bearish — D1 still points up, yet H4 and H1 both lean down with soft RSI (39.4 / 33.4) and price riding under the EMA20. GBP/USD tells a similar tale, with H1 RSI near 31. The earlier tug-of-war has tilted, not reversed — but the sellers have the near-term momentum.

The calendar is light: US Unemployment Claims is the headline, with Goods Trade Balance, Wholesale Inventories, and Natural Gas Storage as supporting cast. Jackson Hole symposium chatter will hover in the background, likely amplifying noise more than direction.

Watch the squeezes. USD/JPY is wedged between 159.37815 and 159.51700 — a breakout could set the tone, though the trend structure is mixed. EUR/USD sits just 0.2 ATR below 1.16421; a push through that former support could extend the slide toward 1.15806. Oil has crawled back to its 82.13 ceiling after last session's bearish lean — note the D1 uptrend still wants its say. Crypto remains paused but buoyant: Bitcoin holds above 79,304.6 and Ethereum above 2,440.5, both with firmer momentum on the higher timeframes. Light data, heavy levels — let price speak first.
