SESSION PREP · ASIA

What to watch in the Asia session

The Asian session (Sydney · Australia · Tokyo · China · Singapore) · updated 2026-08-31 21:02 UTC.

Geopolitics owned the tape from London through New York, and the story sharpened: oil topped $91 a barrel after the US and Iran exchanged fire in the Strait of Hormuz, equities slipped, and the 10-year Treasury yield crossed a threshold that has people sitting up. It wasn't just oil anymore.

The session calendar keeps a low profile: Japan's capital spending, consumer confidence, final manufacturing PMI and a 10-year auction; Australia's building approvals and current account; a China manufacturing PMI; then the European final PMI batch rounds out the window. All low-impact — no data anchor, so headlines and flows do the talking.

The barometer keeps its tilt. Oil is the clearest bull — H4 and H1 up, RSI 65 — but it's kissing 85.53 resistance with a divergence warning, so chasing here is a bit like piling onto the last train car. Gold stays bearish-leaning just above the 4442.36 shelf; a break below opens the downside. USD/JPY remains bullish-leaning but boxed between 159.59 and 159.76 — a breakout decides — while cable is even tighter between 1.35401 and 1.35531. Crypto leans bullish into Asia: Bitcoin holding above 78,700 with the daily trend up, Ether just under 2,480.
