What to watch in the Asia session

The Asian session (Sydney · Australia · Tokyo · China · Singapore) · updated 2026-09-01 21:01 UTC.

Wall Street closed the session with a dip — higher yields and firmer oil making for a shaky start to September, with the 10-year Treasury’s “danger zone” talk getting louder. The story from yesterday is intact: oil still writes the tape, the dollar stays steady, and risk remains headline-driven.

The calendar flips to regional data, with the RBNZ the marquee act: Official Cash Rate, Monetary Policy Statement, and press conference are all high-impact, and AUD GDP also lands. Low-tier fillers include NZ building consents, Japan’s monetary base, Spanish unemployment, and France’s budget balance — none likely to steal the kiwi’s spotlight.

On the gauge: USD/JPY is the clean bull but sits a hair below resistance after an RSI divergence warning — extended, not fresh. Oil is bullish-clear with RSI 81 and no ceiling above: trend intact, but the chart is stretched, so respect the move and mind the vertigo. Gold is bearish-clear with RSI 28 — oversold enough that a bounce wouldn’t surprise. If RBNZ surprises, the kiwi leads; otherwise expect the session to take its cue from the numbers, not the news.
