SESSION PREP · LONDON

What to watch in the London session

The London session (Europe open · the liquidity hour) · updated 2026-09-04 08:07 UTC.

Backdrop: Wall Street finished sharply higher after Fed’s Waller cooled rate-hike talk and bond yields eased — but futures are mostly lower this morning as Iran headlines keep oil climbing, while the Dutch shift of gold from New York to London keeps the bullion subplot alive.

Calendar is light: BOE Governor Bailey speaks in this window — the high-impact item — with UK Construction PMI and euro-area retail sales as supporting cast. Sterling enters the session coiled between 1.35268 and 1.35389 and has shifted to a bearish lean; Bailey is the obvious trigger.

The technical read is “pause, not a straight-line sequel.” USD/JPY is no longer a clean bearish short: it bounced and now sits just 0.1 ATR above a fresh floor at 156.309, with H4 RSI at 29.8 — snap risk is the caution. Ether is the clearest bull, with D1/H4/H1 aligned up; Bitcoin has cooled to neutral below the 81,299.8 ceiling. Crude keeps a bullish tilt, but an H1 RSI of 41 makes the climb toward 89.79 look tiring. Gold is neutral, holding above 4,440.54 rather than extending. If today reverses the overnight script, those are the levels most likely to show it.
