What to watch in the Asia session

The Asian session (Sydney · Australia · Tokyo · China · Singapore) · updated 2026-09-07 21:00 UTC.

Asia Session Prep — 21:00–08:00 UTC

US markets were dark for Labor Day, so the dollar carried Friday's hot payroll punch into the close, keeping Fed hike bets alive and risk sentiment cautious. Oil remains the clear bull outlier after headlines of a Saudi Aramco refinery hit and Iran-Hormuz tensions, while the yen's safe-haven bid has USD/JPY deeply stretched — H4 RSI at 18.5 with no tested floor below.

The calendar is quiet but not empty: Tokyo brings Average Cash Earnings and final GDP, China follows with trade balances, and Australia offers consumer confidence and NAB Business before the RBA's Hunter speaks. Expect thin liquidity to amplify technical moves rather than drive fresh fundamental direction.

Watch USD/JPY first — the downtrend is intact, but an RSI divergence warning against that trend plus a stretched 10.9-ATR gap to resistance says respect the snap risk. Oil's coil between 90.47 and 91.02 is the other live wire: a breakout there sets the tone for the whole session. Gold's squeeze between 4400.21 and 4416.17 remains unresolved, so let price pick a side before leaning in. Keep sizes modest in holiday-thinned conditions.
