What to watch in the US session

The US session (New York open · the afternoon drive) · updated 2026-09-08 12:00 UTC.

US Session Prep — 12:00–21:00 UTC

The cautious tone from London carries straight into this window, with the geopolitical bid under oil still the tape's main driver — Brent pressing toward $100 after Saudi reports of strikes on civilian and energy sites, and Goldman now flagging $120 as a possible next stop. That keeps risk clipped: equities are lower for a second day, and gold and crypto remain the squeeze victims. The dollar's firmness is the anchor, but USD/JPY's stretched bearish run is the tension point after a six-month yen high.

The calendar is light — just US Consumer Credit and the UK's Monetary Policy Report Hearings — so headline flow, particularly any fresh Hormuz or refinery news, will do the talking rather than data.

Gauge: Oil stays BULLISH CLEAR — RSI 62 on the H1, no tested ceiling above, but respect the snap risk at these levels. USD/JPY is BEARISH CLEAR: H4 RSI at 29.3 with no floor below, though H1 momentum is turning up — a bounce attempt is live. Gold and Bitcoin are BEARISH LEANING, squeezed between tight levels; let price pick a side before leaning in. Cable and EUR/USD sit NEUTRAL, coiled between close supports and resistances. Keep sizes modest while headlines drive the tape.
