The US session (New York open · the afternoon drive) · updated 2026-09-16 12:00 UTC.
US Session Prep — 12:00–21:00 UTC
The Clarity Act's Senate defeat is still the headline — Bitcoin printed a three-week low below $75,000 and crypto stocks slid with it, while 5% Treasury yields and oil's spike kept the pressure on equities. That undertow follows us straight into the US open.
Today's calendar is anything but thin on this side: US Retail Sales and Core Retail Sales (Medium) land early, alongside Import Prices, Business Inventories and the NAHB Housing Market Index. Then the main event — the Federal Funds Rate, FOMC Statement, Economic Projections and Press Conference all stack up in the afternoon. CAD gets Housing Starts, Building Permits and the BOC Summary of Deliberations, with Crude Oil Inventories and a Nagel speech rounding out the board.
On the barometer, the crypto complex has firmed slightly against London's read — Bitcoin is now neutral-leaning (H4 RSI 38.1, holding 75848.2 support) and Ethereum bearish-leaning rather than bearish-clear, though both remain the soft spot. GBP/USD stays bearish-leaning (H4 RSI 31.5) with an RSI divergence warning, and Gold has flipped bullish-clear on the H1 (RSI 67.7) even as D1 still leans down — a squeeze under 4360.16 worth watching. Oil's bullish-clear structure holds, but H1 has turned down and momentum is soft. EUR/USD and USD/JPY sit neutral. With the Fed on deck, expect the real move to wait for the statement — keep sizes modest until it lands.
