What to watch in the Asia session

The Asian session (Sydney · Australia · Tokyo · China · Singapore) · updated 2026-09-17 21:00 UTC.

Good evening. The Fed's first hike in three years landed, Wall Street rebounded, and the Clarity Act's failure has the SEC and CFTC promising to write crypto rules themselves — so the dollar bid arrives in Asia intact, if a little tired.

Japan owns this session. The BOJ Policy Rate, Monetary Policy Statement, and Press Conference all land in the window (High) — the one event that can genuinely move USD/JPY, which sits at 155.962, H4 RSI 64.1 and leaning bullish, squeezed between 155.87 support and 156.12 resistance with a breakout on the table. Also on deck: RBA Gov Bullock speaks (Medium), UK Retail Sales (Medium), plus NZ trade and inflation prints, Japan's National Core CPI, German PPI, and China FDI (all Low).

On the barometer, the dollar story is holding but not unanimous. EUR/USD (1.14770) and GBP/USD (1.33558) are still stretched, H4 RSIs at 28.0 and 24.0 — no tested ceiling above, floor far below. Gold is neutral and balanced between 4332.88 and 4362.11; oil leans bearish into 96.79 after a 1.34% eight-hour pop; Bitcoin and Ethereum hold tight ranges, with ETH squeezed for a breakout. Watch whether the dollar bid extends or those stretched pairs finally breathe — and keep one eye on the BOJ.
