SESSION PREP · LONDON

What to watch in the London session

The London session (Europe open · the liquidity hour) · updated 2026-09-17 08:00 UTC.

London Session Prep — 08:00–12:00 UTC

The Fed's first hike in three years landed overnight and the aftershock is still rippling: Bitcoin slipped, US stocks slipped, and the Clarity Act's 49–50 Senate failure has the SEC and CFTC promising to write crypto rules anyway. Asia didn't fight it — the dollar stayed bid, and the oversold extremes we flagged (EUR/USD H4 RSI 26.8, GBP/USD 25.2) are still stretched.

London's calendar, however, has other ideas. The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Summary, rate vote split, and Official Bank Rate all land this morning (High) — the one event on the board capable of overriding the Fed narrative. Euro-area Final CPI and a Spanish 10-year auction are the lighter supporting acts.

On the barometer, EUR/USD and GBP/USD both lean bearish with soft RSI and EMA20 below EMA50, but no tested ceiling above — stretched, not anchored. USD/JPY leans bullish (H4 RSI 61.9, uptrend intact) and sits evenly balanced between 155.33 and 156.30. Gold is bearish-clear but squeezed between 4314.74 and 4357.41 — a breakout is on the table, direction unknown. Oil leans bearish into its 96.61 ceiling; Bitcoin and Ethereum hold tight ranges. Watch whether the BoE extends the dollar bid or hands the pound a reason to snap back.
