The US session (New York open · the afternoon drive) · updated 2026-09-17 12:00 UTC.
US Session Prep — 12:00–21:00 UTC
The Fed's first hike in three years is still the weather: stocks slipped, Bitcoin dropped, and the Clarity Act's 49–50 defeat has the CFTC's Selig saying he'll push crypto rules directly. Asia didn't fight the dollar bid — EUR/USD and GBP/USD arrive stretched, H4 RSIs at 24.4 and 21.5, with no tested ceiling above.
The US calendar opens with Unemployment Claims and the Philly Fed Manufacturing Index (both Medium), plus Building Permits, Housing Starts, and Pending Home Sales (Low). Canada's IPPI, RMPI, and Foreign Securities Purchases round out the morning; Natural Gas Storage closes the day.
On the barometer, the dollar story is intact but not unanimous. USD/JPY leans bullish (H4 RSI 62.5, uptrend) yet sits high in its range, 0.1 ATR under 155.853 resistance with 3.9 ATR of room below — watch whether it breaks up or fades. Gold is squeezed between 4309.11 and 4332.88, a breakout setup with direction unknown, and oil leans bearish into 95.58 after a 1.18 ATR move. Bitcoin and Ethereum hold tight ranges. Watch whether the dollar bid extends or the stretched pairs finally breathe.
