What to watch in the London session

The London session (Europe open · the liquidity hour) · updated 2026-09-18 08:00 UTC.

Good morning. The Fed's first hike in three years landed, Wall Street rallied, and the Clarity Act's failure has the SEC and CFTC promising to write crypto rules themselves — so the dollar bid walks into London intact, if a little tired.

The BOJ owns the window: Japan's central bank raised rates to their highest since 1995, and USD/JPY has taken the hint — 157.464, H4 RSI 77.3, H1 RSI 75.5, H4 and H1 trends up, now 1.0 ATR under resistance at 157.77811 and 3.8 ATR above support at 156.28400. That's a stretched move, and stretched things eventually breathe. Also on deck: ECB President Lagarde speaks (Medium), plus the Eurogroup and ECOFIN meetings and the Current Account print (all Low).

On the barometer, the dollar story continues rather than reverses. EUR/USD (1.14829) and GBP/USD (1.33667) remain the pressure valves — H4 RSIs at 33.5 and 29.9, both bearish-leaning with no tested ceiling above and the floor far below. Gold leans bearish too (D1 and H1 down, H4 mixed) but sits evenly balanced between 4364.16 and 4400.97, with an RSI divergence flag worth respecting. Oil is oversold on H1 (RSI 29.3) and leaning bearish. Crypto is the outlier: Bitcoin and Ethereum are both overbought and squeezed for a breakout — ETH in particular, wedged between 2483.3 and 2503.5. Watch whether the dollar bid extends or those stretched pairs finally breathe — and keep one eye on the BOJ.
