What to watch in the US session

The US session (New York open · the afternoon drive) · updated 2026-09-21 12:00 UTC.

Good afternoon. The dollar bid from Friday is still on its walk — EUR/USD (1.14862) and GBP/USD (1.33940) remain stretched to the downside with no tested ceiling above, USD/JPY (157.202) is firm, and the BOJ's hike still hasn't put a floor under the yen. Today continues that story rather than reversing it — though note the H1 charts are quietly disagreeing: both majors show H1 structure ticking up while H4 stays down.

The US window brings a speaker triple-header: ECB President Lagarde (EUR, medium), BOC Gov Macklem (CAD, medium), and RBA Assist Gov Hunter (AUD, low). No tier-one data — so headlines and tone will do the heavy lifting.

On the barometer, the dollar's pressure valves are still stretched. EUR/USD leans bearish (H4 RSI 43.5) with no tested ceiling above and the floor far below; GBP/USD leans bearish (H4 RSI 45.4) with resistance 13.7 ATR away — genuinely stretched. USD/JPY leans bullish but sits squeezed between 157.137 and 157.308 — a breakout is on the table, direction unknown. Gold is balanced between 4363.19 and 4384.09, breakout on the table. Oil leans bearish, low in its range (H1 RSI 32.3). And crypto stays the outlier — Bitcoin (84,755.0, H4 RSI 82.7) and Ethereum both bullish, with Litecoin's H4 RSI at a scorching 84.8. Watch whether the dollar bid extends or those stretched pairs finally breathe.
