SESSION PREP · LONDON

What to watch in the London session

The London session (Europe open · the liquidity hour) · updated 2026-10-01 08:00 UTC.

London Session Prep — Thursday, 08:00–12:00 UTC

The dollar's grip loosened just enough for a few pairs to breathe overnight — and this morning it's tightened right back. EUR/USD (1.13041) has flipped bearish after a quiet shift out of neutral at 07:15 UTC, GBP/USD (1.32301) has slid to the floor of today's range with a fresh bullish tilt at 07:45 UTC, and USD/JPY (158.307) has pushed to 158.40 after a close above its swing high. Gold (4162.83) has slipped back to bearish, still boxed below 4166.18 after yesterday's US heavyweight docket of Core PCE, Final GDP, ADP and a trio of speakers.

On the barometer, the stretched pairs stay stretched: EUR/USD is clear bearish across D1/H1 with H4 RSI 26.6 running deeply soft; GBP/USD is bearish on D1/H4 but H1 pushing up, with H1 momentum firm at 55.1. USD/JPY is the one leaning bullish — H4 bands at their tightest in 120 bars, a squeeze worth watching. Gold's higher-timeframe read stays mixed; oil is the one stretching its legs, H1 RSI 63.7 after a +2.10% run over the last 8h.

Today's London docket is light but not empty: BOE Gov Bailey speaks (Medium) alongside final Manufacturing PMIs for the euro area and UK, Italian and euro-area unemployment, and a pair of European bond auctions. Watch whether the dollar bid extends or those pairs finally breathe — and whether Bailey gives sterling a nudge either way.
