What to watch in the US session

The US session (New York open · the afternoon drive) · updated 2026-10-02 12:00 UTC.

Revised 2 Oct 2026, 19:22 UTC — the first version showed oil as live while its prices were a day old, and called Bitcoin's trend aligned when its card read mixed.

Good afternoon. The backdrop is a busy regulatory news day — crypto custody and tax proposals out of Washington, ECB voices on bank rules and onchain money — but the main event is unmistakably the US labor data landing at the top of this session.

On the calendar: Average Hourly Earnings, Non-Farm Employment Change, and the Unemployment Rate all print together, with Factory Orders the quieter companion. FOMC's Logan speaks again, and German Buba President Nagel also takes the mic.

As for the board: EUR/USD reads bearish clear, with the daily and H4 pointing down while the hourly tilts up, and H4 RSI at 25.9 — a stretched read with the floor far below and no tested ceiling above. GBP/USD is also bearish clear on the same daily/H4-down, H1-up split, though its chart is evenly balanced with room above and below. USD/JPY is bullish clear, squeezed between two close levels where a breakout is on the table, direction unknown. Bitcoin leans bullish, high in its range with H4 RSI at 71.3. Gold, oil, and Ethereum have paused live reads, so there's nothing fresh to gauge there. Watch how the labor numbers land against these tilts — and mind the thin patches.
