London Session's Technical Barometer

What this reads: the bigger picture for this session — daily, 4-hour and 1-hour trends with 4-hour and 1-hour momentum, read when this briefing was written. It changes slowly and is not a forecast. Market Pulse reads only the last hour or so, so the two can disagree: a short bounce inside a downtrend can read bullish there and bearish here.

SESSION PREP · LONDON

What to watch in the London session

The London session (Europe open · the liquidity hour) · updated 2026-10-08 08:02 UTC.

Good morning, London. Asian shares are softer as rising bond yields and surging oil prices do the pushing, and the crypto world is having one of its usual busy weeks — Samsung Wallet bringing USDC to 82 million phones, the US government shifting $470M in seized bitcoin and tether to Coinbase Prime.

This window's calendar is modest but chatty: Gov Board Member Martin speaks on the franc, the BOE Credit Conditions Survey lands, FOMC Member Waller speaks (the medium-tier item), MPC Members Pill and Greene follow, and we get Eurogroup Meetings plus the ECB Monetary Policy Meeting Accounts — all low-tier bar Waller.

On the gauge, the tilt stays cautious but mixed. EUR/USD is BEARISH CLEAR with D1 down while H4 and H1 are mixed, and the nearest level below is far away — price is stretched. GBP/USD is BEARISH LEANING, wedged between two nearby levels where a break could go either way. USD/JPY is the odd one out, BULLISH LEANING with H4 up, sitting between two close levels. Gold is BEARISH LEANING with D1 down, oil BULLISH CLEAR with D1 and H4 up, bitcoin BEARISH CLEAR across all three timeframes, and ethereum NEUTRAL. Watch how those levels hold as London comes in.
