FX, gold and oil are closed — crypto trades on. Session preps resume Sunday 21:00 UTC. Updated 2026-10-11 12:02 UTC.
Pour the coffee — this was one of those weeks where the calendar did the talking. Wall Street is heading into a busy stretch, with Reuters noting that "bank earnings, CPI headline busy markets week as S&P 500 hovers near records." That's the mood in one line: stocks are perched up high, and now they have to earn it.
Over in currencies, the story was the rupee. The Financial Times reported that India's central bank is trying to shore up the rupee "as it nears record lows" — a reminder that strong-dollar pressure is still being felt far from home.
And in crypto, regulation was the theme. France's finance committee backed taxing Bitcoin-to-stablecoin swaps in the 2027 budget (Crypto Briefing), plus an exit tax on crypto holders moving abroad with €800K. Decrypt summed up the whiplash neatly: the committee backed the stablecoin swap tax and the exit tax — "then rejects the budget." Lithuania tightened crypto reporting under the EU framework, Thailand set a start date for Bitcoin and Ether ETF rules with licensed custodians, and the DOJ is set to investigate Binance again, per BeInCrypto. On the enforcement side, US officials said they plan to seize $1B in crypto linked to Iran this week (TradingView).
Here's our own read, straight from the technical barometer.
EUR/USD is leaning bearish (35/100) — D1 down, H4 up, H1 down. Price sits closer to resistance at 1.12023 (just 0.2 ATR away) than support at 1.11709 (2.9 ATR below), with H4 RSI at 44.1. GBP/USD also leans bearish (39/100), D1 down with H4 and H1 mixed; it's nearer support at 1.32247 (0.7 ATR) than resistance at 1.32508.
USD/JPY is our neutral one (60/100) — D1 up, H4 down, H1 mixed. Price is sitting right at the nearest level above (158.25017), with a full ATR to support at 158.09700. Gold is genuinely neutral (53/100) — D1 down but H4 and H1 both up, H4 RSI 61.8, and price is closer to resistance at 4197.84 than support at 4182.44.
Oil is our clearest bull (77/100): D1 up, H4 up, H1 mixed, sitting between two tight levels — support 92.57, resistance 93.19, both within an ATR.
Crypto never sleeps, and this weekend is no exception. Bitcoin leans bearish on our read (42/100) — D1 down, H4 mixed, H1 up, H4 RSI 47.6. Price is wedged between support at 82,828.3 and resistance at 83,064.8, both within an ATR, so a break either way is the thing to watch.
Ethereum leans bearish too (36/100) — D1 and H4 mixed, H1 down, H4 RSI 38.6. It has roughly even room to support at 2,486.5 and resistance at 2,506.5.
The street's focus next week is policy, not price: France's proposed stablecoin-swap tax and exit tax, Lithuania's tighter reporting, Thailand's ETF rule start date, and the DOJ's renewed Binance look. Regulation is the headline risk to respect.
Three threads. First, earnings and inflation: Reuters flags bank earnings and CPI as the week's twin headliners with the S&P 500 near records. Second, energy — Trump is tapping Russia to boost global diesel supplies ahead of the midterms, though one strategist told the press it may be "too little, too late." Third, the crypto crackdown headlines above.
Wednesday is the big one: US Core CPI and CPI (m/m and y/y) all land at 12:30 UTC, with Lagarde, Bailey and Macklem all speaking earlier that day. Thursday brings Australian employment, UK GDP m/m, and US Core PPI — plus Bailey and the SNB's Schlegel on the mic.
- Wed: CPI — the number that sets the tone for everything else.
- Thu: UK GDP and Australian jobs for the currency crowd.
- All week: bank earnings, and any follow-through on the crypto regulation and seizure stories.
That's the weekend wrap. Rest up, stay curious, and remember — this is educational context, not financial advice. See you next week.
