Cboe Global Markets has submitted a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) seeking approval to list exchange-traded funds offering 3x leveraged exposure to Bitcoin and Ether. If approved, these products would allow investors to magnify daily returns on the two largest cryptocurrencies by three times—both on the upside and the downside.
Leveraged ETFs are designed to achieve a multiple of an underlying index's daily performance. Because they reset daily, their long-term returns can differ significantly from simply multiplying the asset's performance over a longer period. This "volatility decay" effect means these products are generally more suited to short-term tactical use than to long-term buy-and-hold strategies.
The filing marks another step in the ongoing integration of digital assets into mainstream financial infrastructure. However, approval is not guaranteed. The SEC has historically approached crypto derivatives with caution
