Neocloud stocks like CoreWeave are having a moment — and time’s running out to cash in

The market's enthusiasm for neoclouds such as CoreWeave is running hot, but BCA analyst Noah Weisberger offers a distinctly cooler framing. In his view, these companies are destined to be treated less like high-growth technology platforms and more like "cyclical leasing companies." The distinction is crucial: rather than compounding revenue through software and services, neoclouds generate income by acquiring expensive, specialized hardware and leasing that capacity to AI developers.

That model carries a familiar set of risks. Like any leasing business, profits depend heavily on utilization rates, financing costs, and the durability of demand. When AI infrastructure spending ebbs or technology rapidly depreciates, these firms are exposed to the same cyclical squeeze seen in traditional equipment rental sectors. If that thesis holds, the current valuations reflect a momentum premium that may compress as the market recalibrates its expectations.

The key for investors is watching the fundamentals beneath the headlines. Contract duration, capacity utilization, and the terms of customer commitments will reveal whether neoclouds are steady earners or just cyclical rentals in expensive clothing. What matters most, however, is how quickly that reality becomes priced in — for better or worse, the analyst's view suggests time is a factor.
