Bitcoin has beaten stocks and gold over six months. Now it’s closing in on $80,000.
Bitcoin pushed toward the $80,000 mark on Monday, a level not seen since May, extending a rally that began after the Treasury Department announced plans to buy back longer-dated government bonds. That move was widely read as a signal of continued liquidity support, which tends to benefit risk-sensitive assets like cryptocurrencies.
The six-month performance gap is striking: Bitcoin has outperformed both equities and gold over that stretch. While stocks have been supported by resilient earnings and gold by central-bank demand, Bitcoin’s appeal has centered on its high beta to shifts in monetary expectations. When Treasury buybacks are viewed as easing financial conditions, speculative capital often rotates into digital assets.
For investors, the key question is whether this momentum can hold as the $80,000 level approaches. That price point has historically acted as resistance, and a break above it could draw fresh attention. Conversely, any pullback may simply reflect profit-taking. Watching Treasury yields and dollar strength will be essential, as they remain the most direct drivers of Bitcoin’s near-term direction.
