EBA Urges EU to Regulate Crypto Lending in MiCA Review - CryptoRank

The European Banking Authority has called on EU lawmakers to bring crypto lending and borrowing within the scope of the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework as part of the regulation's scheduled review. The recommendation reflects a gap in the current rules: MiCA primarily covers issuers of crypto-assets and trading service providers, while lending and borrowing activities have largely fallen outside its perimeter.
For markets, the proposal matters because crypto lending sits at the center of how yield is generated and how leverage is accessed in digital-asset markets. A clearer EU rulebook could change how platforms structure these products, what disclosures they provide, and how much capital or consumer protection they must maintain. Firms operating across the bloc would likely face more consistent requirements rather than a patchwork of national approaches.
What to watch is the legislative follow-through. The EBA's position is a recommendation, not law, and any extension of MiCA would move through the EU's ordinary procedure, with timing and final scope still open. Market participants should track whether lending, borrowing, and related yield products are formally added to the review, and how platforms adapt if they are.
