China P2P stablecoin wallets grew 43x despite crypto restrictions: Chainalysis - TradingView
Chainalysis data reported by TradingView indicates that peer-to-peer stablecoin wallet activity in China expanded 43-fold despite the country's longstanding restrictions on cryptocurrency trading. The growth points to a persistent gap between formal prohibitions and grassroots demand for dollar-denominated value transfer. Stablecoins, which typically track the U.S. dollar, appear to be filling that gap through informal, wallet-to-wallet channels rather than registered exchanges.
For markets, the development matters for two reasons. First, it suggests stablecoin usage is increasingly driven by cross-border and savings motives in jurisdictions where official crypto access is limited, which can affect stablecoin supply, issuance, and on-chain settlement volumes. Second, it highlights how enforcement alone may not fully suppress demand when alternative rails exist.
What to watch: whether Chinese authorities tighten oversight of P2P and OTC channels, how stablecoin issuers respond to compliance pressure, and whether similar patterns emerge in other restricted markets. The trend is a reminder that crypto activity often migrates rather than disappears.
