Why Nvidia’s stock is dodging the AI credit scare that is crushing Broadcom and Oracle
The recent widening of credit default swap (CDS) spreads across AI-linked names reflects growing investor caution about the debt financing behind the sector's rapid build-out. Broadcom and Oracle have both seen their CDS spreads widen and price-to-earnings ratios contract as markets reassess the risk carried on their balance sheets. Nvidia, by contrast, has so far avoided that repricing.
The distinction matters because it highlights how differently AI exposure can be structured. Nvidia's position as a supplier of computing hardware leaves it less directly tied to the credit-intensive infrastructure spending that weighs on firms funding large-scale data center expansion. Its earnings profile and capital structure are also different, which helps explain why credit markets have treated it separately.
What to watch: whether the divergence persists if AI capital spending slows, and whether credit spreads at Broadcom and Oracle stabilize or continue widening. A sustained gap would suggest investors are distinguishing between AI demand and the financing risk behind it.
