Standard Chartered Launches RLUSD Custody in Dubai, Plans LMAX Collateral Link: 17 outlets compared - NewsCord

Standard Chartered has begun offering custody for Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin through its Dubai entity, with plans to connect that support to collateral arrangements on the LMAX exchange. The move places a regulated banking institution alongside a dollar-pegged token issued by Ripple, extending custody infrastructure into a market segment that has largely been served by crypto-native firms.
The significance lies in the convergence of three elements: a bank-supervised custody venue, a stablecoin designed for payments and settlement, and an exchange where collateral is posted. If the LMAX link proceeds as planned, RLUSD could serve a functional role in trading collateral rather than only in transfers, which is where stablecoins have seen most institutional use to date.
What to watch is whether other banks follow with comparable custody offerings, and whether regulators in the UAE and elsewhere signal comfort with stablecoins used as collateral. Adoption will depend less on the announcement itself than on whether clients actually route balances through these channels.
